Clash of the Titans (2010)- Fight Between God and Human

Greece Myth, with distinctive characters and complicated story, is the source of western civilazation. Since it is a great source of making film, there are lots of film with Greece Myth theme. With the development of computer technology, lots of mysterious animal and things can be shown in front of people's eyes.

Different with Chinese Myth, there is hero besides God and human beings in Greece Myth who is the descendant of God and human being together. And the story is mainly narrating them. God in Greece Myth has the similar character with human being. They can be angry and jealous and show their emotion easily. The story about hero cannot seperate with God and human beings.



God has a lot of appearance in Greece Myth. Generally they have human being appearance with gorgeous beauty. As they also have emotion as human being, they can be easliy get involve of the fight with human being. In Olympic, they fight for right. There is no perfect God in Greece Myth which show live reality and its attraction. All the fight and adventure story comes from complicated relationship like soap opera.

Bastard- Zeus's son cannot be offended

There are lots of bastards in Greece Myth. For example, Zues is the greatest God who is called the Hammer of God for controlling lightening. He becomes the third generation God by killing his father Cronus assisting by his mother Rhea. He has lots of bastards as he has affairs with many goddess and human beings behind his wife.

In the legend, Acrisius, king of Argost is predicted to be killed by his grandson. He is afraid about that and builds a copper tower to lock his unmarried daugther Danae. Out of his expectation, Zeus has caught an eye on Danae and has relationship with her. After that, Danae gives birth to Perseus. Acrisius drops Perseus into the ocean to kill him but in vain. Perseus comes back to revenge after grown up and becomes a hero with help by Zeus.

Distrust between husband and wife

Different from Chinese Myth, God in Greece Myth would like to revenge even with great power. Zeus and Hera would be the outstanding couple for this event. Hera, who is Zeus' sister, is Zeus' seventh wife. She controls marriage and childbirth and protects women. She is also elegant and faithful to Zeus. However, she is very jealous. She always fights with Zeus for his dis-loyal but easy to make up by Zeus' sweet words.

In Clash of the Titans, Hera does not appears to be crazy revenging wife as Thetis, Goddess of Sea, sets lots of traps on Perseus' growing for revenging Zeus not forgiving sins of she and Zeus's son Kalibosi. That's why Hera steps back to let all the things go as it does.

Brothers' fight- rigth and wonmen

Brothers' fight would be a typical element of soap opera. In Greece Myth, replacement of God is not hereditary but fight to die before getting crown. The first king Uranus eats all his children as being afraid to be replaced by his children. Zeus has been saved by his mother for turning him into a stone. Finally, Zeus become the third king of God by overthrowing his father. After that, Zeus happens to fight with his brother Hades for getting Persephone. At last, Hades get Persephone.

Clash of the Titans also narrates fight between Zeus and Hades. And the final result will be determined by son the of Zeus, Perseus.

Fairy Tale with Deep Emotion- How to Train Your Dragon

Not matter what you raise, you need to pay for affection. It would be simple to become a great friend with your cat or your dog you raised, but how about raising an ET or dragon?

How to Train Your Dragon is a great appreciated film in 2010. DreamWorks do not take a violate action to make this film as to Shrek but give us deep emotion this time.

This 3D animation is edited according to Children fiction from English writer Cressida Cowell. The story happens in Pirate Country in North Europe and fire dragon world and narrates a group pirates lives on hunting fire dragons and is proud in fighting and killing fire dragons. A great chief has a son who is very week and imaginative named Hiccup. His work is just making weapons for warriors with his teachers in a room. However, Hiccup believes he can do some great thing and try to make a plan to become famous. The more his father distrusts him, the more he try to get approve from his father. He make a big slingshot and shot the strongest dragon Night Fury in the fighting. Night Fury has great speed and strong destruction power. But nobody see its face before. And this time Hiccup tie it with his slingshot.


Hiccup try to kill Night Fury but giving up and release it finally. And this make a rare story of human and dragon. As Night Fury lost a wing, it cannot fly in balance and is trapped on a lake surrounded by stones. In order to solve the trouble, Hiccup give Night Fury a artificial wing to make it be able to fly again. And they become great friend after that. Hiccup named Night Fury a funny name- Toothless.

However, Hiccup has being sent to training class for killing dragon. Warriors is planning on attacking dragons nestles. As time goes by, Hiccup realize that it is fault relationship between human and dragon now. They can establish friendship without fighting and attacking.

From here, the stroy is like he human and dragon version Avatar, Pocahontas, Sauvez Willy or ET the Extra-Terrestrial. Some critics said that this story combines mystrial culture of Kung Fu Panda, driving dragon action of Avatar and deep spirit of Lilo & Stitch together. The concept of communication and understanding to contribute harmony living of different races has been told thousands of times. Drama is just put the prototype in different scene.

And why How to Train Your Dragon is fantastic? Because it is with smooth and compact plot, suitable but not over-active humor, funny design, grand fly and fighting screen and touching emotion as pure communication and trust between human and animal. Expectance, dispointment, forgiveness, encouragement and regain relationship between father and son in this film turn to be deep and thoughtful. DreamWork make a main-stream film. Compare with How to Train Your Dragon, Alice in Wonderland just has visual special efficacy without raising sympathy from audience.

There is also love and friendship in this film. It is romantic when young adventure take his loving girl driving dragon flying to the sky. It is a dream to human to fly in the sky freely just like that.

Lost of Fairy Tale-- Alice in Wonderland

It is not a long time after saying goodbye with the Amazing Avatar to welcome Alice in Wonderland, which is not like Avatar to let every existence to be biological and every event to be logical. According to Tim Burton, create a colorful and odd time zone would be more important.



Special Efficacy——the only Attraction
Original story is a well-known story edited to various artistic works from graduation performance of kindergarden to film showing around the world. And the printed story is also going on and on. All those edited versions is still be faith to the original story. Now this new film also try to find a emotional touch spot for not only considering the audience and market but also emotional clue to the heroin to revisit the wonderland. Of course it is not a noval action, however, it is sincere. But this film seems a little absence-minded for all the key plots is too considerable to let the story go naturally. So the attraction of the story can only be special efficacy.

According to visual feeling, Alice in Wonderland is better than the 3D Avatar accoding to some audience. But when looking back to the original story, we can find it hardly to express more than the setting plots and clues. The strange feeling between Heroin and Mad Hatter make things confusing. Moreover, adding some purposes such as touching story style to the film makes it more than just odd.

Besides Capital, is Preference
Tim Burton give us a great visual enjoyment with his Gothic style. He has the gift to create odd film. But this film will more some audience feel a little uncomfortable as Tim Burton is not good at telling story but designing a setting and making imagination fullfil. So Tim Burton is a work artist. He shows us unique and unimaginable industry design in his great experiement and let us know how important is freedom to him.

So this film has preference as all of us to have preference to director, editor, actor, etc. It is not a good thing, but we can understand. That is why Cheshire cat will come out again and again.

Last but not Least
It is no fair to critize this film lost of creation for the setting story. So let's talk about special efficacy again. Cameron and his Avatar have a great distribution to the 3D technology and development of film tech. And animation can be move back to lines after Miyazaki Hayao's expression. And now human's acting can only use voice or not use anything at all in a near future. Computer technology let us see the special efficacy. Virtual character becomes real and adorable. Actors only longer need pretty face which can handled by staffs, such as Red Queen.

That may be just a direction for the development of film. And main stream is still the simple story narrating simple man, according to my understanding. Alice in Wonderland is just like a gossip news to original story. As fairy tale, it does not bring surprise to us but some imaginable character. Time continues to pass and 3D is just a hot spot for a while. When the real live becomes more si-fi, all those 3D films will come to an end.
